Golden Period and Revival (late 1960s–early 1970s)
Manchester City saw a notable renaissance under the direction of Joe Mercer and then Malcolm Allison. In 1967–1968 they won the English First Division title; in 1969 they won the FA Cup; and in 1970 they won the League Cup. This is regarded as one of the club’s greatest times.
Decline and Financial Difficulties (1980s–Early 2000s)
The team struggled financially and on the field in the ensuing years, which resulted in their 1998 relegation to the third division of English football.
2008 saw the purchase of Manchester City by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family. The takeover changed the club’s fortunes and brought in a large financial investment.
Modern Success (2010s–Present)
Manchester City has grown to be one of England and Europe’s major footballing powers while Sheik Mansour owns it. They took home numerous League Cups, FA Cups, and Premier League trophies. The 2016 appointment of manager Pep Guardiola was instrumental in creating a fashionable and prosperous style of football.
